Later, while speaking with PEOPLE, Simpson expressed the same sentiment, stating that the experience reminded her to have self-confidence.
“I never considered wearing a bikini again because I was as large as a couch,” she told PEOPLE. “So to be able to put on a bikini… I hadn’t even considered that a goal until I tried one on, at which point I thought, ‘I think I was afraid of that.’ “
“And for me, as a woman, to be able to look as good as I feel was a major moment,” she added. “You’re proud of yourself, as you should be, and you merit it. You also understand yourself and feel good on the outside. When these two elements come together, the sky is the limit.”
