Phoebe Bridgers Opens for Taylor Swift in Nashville with Boygenius 2023
Boygenius fans who attended Taylor Swift’s Nashville concert on Friday were treated to a pleasant surprise. Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus joined Phoebe Bridgers onstage during an impromptu performance of “Not Strong Enough” during the first opening night of the Eras Tour.
Bridgers also performed “Graceland Too” with Baker and closed her set with “I Know The End” with the entire ensemble.
The trio’s most recent performance was at Coachella, where they performed songs from both their debut boygenius album and their most recent The Record.
Swift also announced the release date of her next re-recorded album during her performance on Friday. In a subsequent tweet, the singer stated, “With six additional songs I’ve released from the vault, I cannot wait to celebrate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) on July 7 with you.”
Swift is a longtime devotee of both Bridgers and boygenius. After the group’s album was released, she praised it on Instagram Stories, describing it as “truly a masterpiece.”
She wrote, “Just a friendly tip to make your life better!”
In addition, Bridgers presented Swift with the 2023 Innovator Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in March and discussed Swift’s influence on her own career as a singer-songwriter.
“As I matured, so did Taylor, as did her music. My songs gradually improved as I stopped attempting to sound intriguing and began to simply tell the truth. Taylor has always been truthful. She has composed melodies from her current location. Her music changed genre in the same way that life does; being 16 is incomparable to being 18, 22, 25, and 28. I’m thankful to have grown up in a world that included Taylor Swift, or “The World: Taylor’s Version.”
Beginning on May 5 in Nashville and concluding on May 28 in East Rutherford, New Jersey (outside New York City), Bridgers is Swift’s opening act for a span of Eras Tour dates. The group will embark on a summer tour of the United States, with some dates falling within the Re:SET concert series.
“I take inspiration from the happy people I see, and I’m still trying to be happy,” Bridgers told Rolling Stone for a cover story earlier this year about Swift. “She is such a profound, sage human being who has not sacrificed any joy. She validates the limits that others have attempted to remove from her her entire existence.”
Swift also recruited Bridgers to contribute to “Nothing New,” a bonus track from Red (Taylor’s Version), in 2021.
