In a preview footage of an interview with Diane Sawyer, Jeremy Renner says he used sign language to apologize to his family while being treated in the hospital following the snow plow accident. Renner expressed his regret in sign language. The Marvel protagonist learned sign language in order to greet his deaf Hawkeye co-star Alaqua Cox.
During the same footage, Jeremy Renner stated that while he was in the hospital following the snow plow accident, he wrote his family’s last words in the notes app on his smartphone. The Marvel actor said through emotions, “Therefore, I’m writing notes to my family in my phone.” Renner added that he does not wish to be plagued in this manner by the memory of a snow plow accident.
The actor continued, “I alter the narrative of being a victim, making an error, or anything else.”

Renner was struck by the snow plow as it was being used to move Fries’ vehicle out of the snow. The Marvel actor sustained multiple injuries, including fractured vertebrae, a perforated liver, and a collapsed lung.
