Beetlejuice 2 Will Star Familiar Faces 2023
This time, it’s truly showtime.
After years of speculation, it appears that Tim Burton’s beloved 1988 comedy Beetlejuice will receive a sequel.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. has announced that Beetlejuice 2 will be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
Although details on the project are as scarce as Lydia Deet’s desire to remain among the living, the outlet did provide additional information about the ensemble.
Michael Keaton will renew his character as the mischievous ghost Beetlejuice, and Winona Ryder will reprise her role as Lydia Deetz. In addition, Jenna Ortega will join the cast as Lydia’s daughter, and Justin Theroux will perform an unspecified role in the film.
According to Deadline, production for the movie begins in London on Wednesday.
No word yet on whether Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis will reprise their roles as the lovable but naïve spirits Adam and Barbara, nor on whether Schitt’s Creek alum Catherine O’Hara will reprise her role as Della. We also do not know if Harry Belafonte needle drops will be available.
The long-awaited sequel had a mistaken start in the past.
In 2015, Winona affirmed to HuffPost Live and Seth Meyers that a sequel to Beetlejuice would be produced.
Tim Burton also appeared to imply that a sequel was in the works, but clarified to Collider in 2016 that reports of a sequel were premature, and that he was “interested” in revisiting Beetlejuice, but only under the “right circumstances”.
