Beyoncé stops Paris concert to honor Tina Turner: “Scream so she can feel your love.” 2023
Beyoncé paid tribute to Tina Turner during her Paris concert by pausing and asking the audience to shout in her honor.
The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll died “peacefully” this week at age 83 after a protracted illness, according to her representative.
During her concert on the Renaissance tour, the Crazy in affection singer instructed the audience to “scream so that [Turner] can feel your love.”
“If you’re a fan of mine, you’re also a fan of Tina Turner,
She continued, “I feel so fortunate to have witnessed her brilliance while I was alive. I also feel extremely fortunate to be performing here once more.”
Beyoncé’s tribute for Turner followed criticism of a song lyric in which she ridiculed Turner’s tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband, Ike Turner.
This lyric from her successful song Drunk In Love resurfaced on Twitter, prompting Turner fans to call Beyoncé hypocritical.
Her spouse Jay Z raps in the song: “Beat the box up, like Mike in ’97, I bite / I’m Ike Turner, turn up baby, no, I don’t play / Baby, no, I don’t play, now eat the cake, Anna Mae / Said eat the cake, Anna Mae!”
The verse makes allusion to an alleged argument Turner’s ex-husband had with her over a slice of cake.
Following Turner’s passing, Beyoncé posted a tribute to the vocalist on her website. “I adore you immensely. She wrote, “I am so appreciative of your inspiration and all the ways you have paved the way.”
“You are strength and resilience,” Beyoncé continued. “You are the embodiment of strength and fervor. We are all so privileged to have witnessed your kindness and enduringly beautiful character.”
Before concluding, she added, “Thank you for all that you have done.”
