Disneyland’s Giant Dragon Burns During Show 2023
Saturday night, a massive prop dragon caught fire during a nighttime show at Disneyland, prompting guests to flee the area. The New York Post reports that the fire began during the ”Fantasmic!” performance at the Tom Sawyer Island attraction.
Multiple social media videos of the incident depict the 45-foot-tall Maleficent Dragon’s head enveloped in flames that spread to its body. As a consequence, the show was abruptly halted as guests and Disneyland cast members fled the scene. An announcement could be heard in the background as flames from the fire could be seen ascending into the sky.
“Fantasmic!” must end due to unforeseeable circumstances. A PSA apologized for any inconvenience.
The Anaheim Fire Department responded to the fire, and there were no injuries reported. The extent of the fire damage was unknown at first.
Representatives of Disneyland theme park verified that ”the dragon caught fire during the final performance of Fantasmic at Disneyland park on Saturday evening.”
”All cast members were evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island in a secure manner. Guests were evacuated from attractions near the island due to smoke and wind, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation,” the statement continued.
Notably, Fantasmic! is a 27-minute live performance that has been running in Frontierland since 1992. In addition to fireworks and a colorful water display, the show features live actors, pyrotechnics, lasers, music, and other elements.
