G-Dragon’s exclusive YG Entertainment deal ends 2023
On Tuesday, many news sites claimed that the exclusive deal that G-Dragon of Big Bang had with YG Entertainment had come to an end.
There was no official statement issued by the agency, but its quarterly report for the first quarter of 2023, which was distributed through the Data Analysis, Retrieval, and Transfer System, did not include G-Dragon on the roster of the company’s artists.
Big Bang, a band consisting of five members and formed by YG Entertainment, made their debut in 2006 and went on to achieve extraordinary success during the late 2000s and the 2010s.
All of Korea’s music streaming services ranked “Still Life,” the band’s most recent digital single, at the very top. “Still Life” was released in April of 2022.
YG Entertainment and G-Dragon’s exclusive contract has expired.
Seungri and T.O.P, two members of the band, have parted ways with the group, while Daesung and Taeyang have sought new management.
G-Dragon was thought to be the sole member of the band who was still working with the agency when the news of the quarterly report became public.
On Tuesday, YG Entertainment announced that its exclusive deal with G-Dragon had come to an end. Nevertheless, it is contemplating the possibility of negotiating separate contracts with the artist in the future for other music activities and commercial partnerships.
The announcement was made not long after T.O.P revealed on his social media accounts that he had already split ways with the boy band some time ago. Before then, in February of 2022, his agreement with YG Entertainment had already come to an end.
