Jake Gyllenhaal calls himself ‘fortunate’ to have had sex with Anne Hathaway twice in movies 2023
Jake Gyllenhaal, star of Spider-Man: Far From Home, has said he’s ‘lucky’ to have had two instances of fake cinematic intercourse with Anne Hathaway.
In what could be considered an odd compliment, Gyllenhaal praised Hathaway’s ‘rhythm’ in the salacious sequences.
In both of the films in which they’ve co-starred, they’ve played lovers.
They first worked together on the groundbreaking 2005 film Brokeback Mountain by Ang Lee.
Hathaway portrayed his wife, Lureen Newsome, while Gyllenhaal portrayed the closeted rancher Jack Twist.
With Jack’s heart set on Heath Ledger’s Ennis Del Mar, despite sharing a sexual scene with Anne Hathaway’s character, there was little chemistry between the two.
In the 2010 film Love & Other Drugs, Gyllenhaal played Jamie Randall, a smarmy Pfizer salesman whose life is transformed when he encounters Anne Hathaway’s Maggie Murdock, who has early-onset Parkinson’s disease.
Critics could not help but praise Gyllenhaal and Hathaway’s electrifying rapport, despite the film’s lack of universal acclaim (49 percent on Rotten Tomatoes).
One critic stated that the film lacks a certain element, but Jake and Anne’s chemistry is undeniable; they create genuine sparks.
Gyllenhaal said he felt comfortable performing love scenes with Hathaway because he had previously worked with her on comparable bedroom scenes.
During the Love and Other Drugs press tour, he stated, “I’m fortunate. In Brokeback Mountain, Annie and I had sex on camera, so I wasn’t apprehensive.
“There is something inherently musical about the way Annie and I both operate.
“All that matters is melody. There is a rhythm to writing, to athletics, and to sexual activity.
“I would recommend getting into bed with Anne Hathaway to any man.”
Hathaway, for her part, recalled on the film’s press tour that one of her “favorite memories” from filming was getting “unnecessarily naked” in front of other cast and crew members.
Hathaway recalled filming a scene in which Maggie arrives at James’ apartment and inadvertently exposes herself to his flatmate: “We’d been filming for a few hours, the ice was broken and everything was fine, we’d just returned from lunch, and I’d gone behind the set to speak with someone.
“Suddenly, someone whispers, ‘Annie, you’re on!'” And I think because they were whispering, I thought we were shooting, so I ran in and dropped my coat, and I’m just standing there when I see Jake sort of freeze and go ‘huh?’ and I realize the camera is in a different place and we’re still rehearsing, and that I got naked in front of everyone!
Then, I hurriedly put on my trench coat; it was plainly a case of life imitating art!
