Zachary Levi Doesn’t Blame Dwayne Johnson for Shazam’s Cut Post-Credits Scene! Godly Fury 2023

Zachary Levi clarified on Instagram that he does not hold Dwayne Johnson or anybody else responsible for the removal of the post-credits sequence from Shazam! Justice Society of America members would have invited the sequel’s main character to join their organization in Fury of the Gods.

Levi appeared to call out Johnson on Tuesday after The Wrap claimed that the Black Adam actor prevented Justice Society figures from participating in the Shazam! sequel and ruled out the prospect of a Levi appearance. The Chuck alum tweeted a photo on his Instagram Stories referencing the news with the caption “The truth shall set you free.”

“I may or may not have, you know, shared something in my Stories about a story I had nothing to do with that [The Wrap] had written on, and then I received criticism because people were asking, ‘Well, what are you doing?'” You’re attempting to pin the failure of your film on this individual. As if you’re attempting to place the blame on us,'” Levi stated on Instagram Live on Thursday. “Hey, I haven’t blamed anybody. I have not held a single individual accountable for the performance of our film.”

As Black Adam and Shazam are adversaries in the comics, it was anticipated that Justice Society members would appear in Fury of the Gods. David F. Sandberg, the director of the sequel, informed The Hollywood Reporter that the intended post-credits scene “collapsed three days before filming began.”

Levi reiterated that he was not placing blame on anyone and offered his own explanations for why the picture was underperforming at the box office and receiving poor ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The reason I decided to reveal this is not because I wish to place blame on anyone,” he stated. “Because I do not want to be held accountable for things that are not my fault. As a leader and, I feel, a defender of my family, my Shazam-ly, and everyone who worked so hard on these films, we have done all possible to fight for you, the fans.”

He went on to explain that the Shazam! crew attempted to secure Henry Cavill’s participation in the 2019 picture, but were unable to do so. Levi, who grew up as a self-proclaimed comic book enthusiast, stated that he desires to provide spectators with as many crossovers and callbacks as possible.

The American Underdog actor also discussed the post-credits scene they ended to producing for Fury of the Gods, which starred Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee from Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad (spoiler warning!).

“Some are criticizing James Gunn because his wife Jennifer Holland, an actress who appears on Peacemaker and was in Suicide Squad, is related to the Justice Society,” Levi said. The usage of Jennifer and Steve in the mid-credits scene of Shazam! was not the original intention.

The initial intention was for Hawkman and Cyclops to be there to welcome me… Those who haven’t watched the film should be warned that the following contains a few spoilers. Anyway, everything is online anyhow. So, our intention, our goal — Walter Hamada, Peter Safran, David Sandberg, myself, and everyone else — we had an amazing sequence that would have bound me to the JSA with Hawkman and Cyclone, but we were foiled.”

Again, he clarified that he wasn’t attempting to place blame for the film’s poor performance, but rather wanted to protect those who deserved it.

Levi stated, “I am going to the defense of the truth because the truth is good.” “We should all live in it, even if it’s difficult, even if it’s something that contradicts what we may have previously thought and now challenges our concept or viewpoint. We must abide by the truth
