After Citadel, Priyanka Chopra was paid the same amount for Love Again: I believe I’ve broken the glass ceiling for others as well 2023
Priyanka Chopra revealed earlier this year that after two decades in the entertainment industry, she was finally receiving equal pay on her projects, commencing with Prime Video’s web series Citadel.
The actor revealed that she was initially astonished and then moved to learn that she and her male co-star on Citadel, Richard Madden, would receive equal pay. She added that at first, she did not believe it would occur during her lifetime, so she had ceased thinking about it.
After obtaining equal pay with Richard Madden on Citadel, Priyanka Chopra was astonished and moved.
Priyanka made her acting debut opposite Vijay in the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan. The following year, she made her Bollywood debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003). She relocated to the United States in 2015 after being cast as the lead in the American television series Quantico. She then appeared in the 2017 feature film Baywatch alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
In an interview with Shondaland, Priyanka stated, “I was honestly quite astonished, as I had stopped considering or discussing the matter. Because the disparity between what my male co-actors would receive and what I would receive, even if I was a co-lead, was so great and extensive, I never believed it would occur in my lifetime. And that is a lamentable thought to consider.
However, my agents at UTA suggested that they would like to go back in and negotiate on my behalf to determine if that was possible. And when it occurred, I pondered if it was because the head of Amazon Studios at the time, Jennifer Salke, was a woman.”
She continued, “When women are in positions of authority, do they assist other women and create opportunities for other women? I believe the answer to be affirmative. So, I felt very affected. I felt as though I had broken or pushed the glass ceiling a bit for myself, and hopefully for other actors as well. I must say that I have experienced parity in the majority of my subsequent employment, including Love Again.”
Prime Video will broadcast the season finale of Citadel on May 26, 2023. Priyanka also has the May release of the romantic comedy Love Again opposite Sam Heughan. Later this year, she begins filming Heads Of State alongside John Cena and Idris Elba.
