Rachel Brosnahan, who stars on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and Laurence Fishburne, who has a lengthy history in the acting industry, will join Rami Malek, who won an Academy Award for acting, in the upcoming suspense film “Amateur.”
The movie is being supported by 20th Century Studios and will be directed by James Hawes, who is known for directing “Slow Horses.”
Caitriona Balfe, who stars in the television show “Outlander,” reportedly joined the cast of the movie as well, as reported by the entertainment news source Deadline.
The plot centers on a cryptographer for the CIA who, after his wife is killed in a terrorist strike in London, insists that his superiors investigate the perpetrators of the incident.
When it becomes apparent that they would not act because of competing priorities inside the organization, he blackmails the agency into providing him with training and allowing him to pursue the perpetrators on his own.
The most current version of the screenplay for the film, which will be produced by Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson, was written by Gary Spinelli. In addition to that, Malek will take on the role of executive producer.
