As a result of the publication of new character posters, The Little Mermaid is being mocked.

The latest live-action remake from Disney is scheduled for a May release, and to commemorate one month until its arrival, the studio has released one-sheet posters featuring the first glimpse at several characters.

This included Melissa McCarthy as the villainous Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as the fish Flounder, and Daveed Diggs as the crustacean Sebastian.

The posters of Flounder and Sebastian sparked a significant amount of ridicule on social media, with fans observing that Disney has essentially pasted a photograph of a crustacean and a fish – which do not resemble the animated film’s versions of the characters – onto a lavish background.

As a result, numerous individuals have questioned their designs.

“The small yellow shade is all that’s left of Flounder’s soul after Disney tried to drain it,” one person wrote, while another stated, “YOU ARE NOT FLOUNDER, WHO ARE YOU?”

Hey Disney… “maybe there was a REASON all the fish were animated,” another tweet stated, with one user adding, “I feel bad for the animators when they were told to humanize a crab AND make him believable; Disney set them up for failure.”

Those singing along to the film’s famous tunes, however, will be singing incorrectly, as co-songwriter Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda altered the lyrics to make them more appropriate for modern audiences.

On May 26, The Little Mermaid will be released in theaters.
