Wang Luodan and Bosco Wong Lead “My Dearest Stranger” Aspiring Chinese Drama 2023

Wang Luodan (“The Dead End,” “Struggle,” “The Continent”) and Hong Kong-born Bosco Wong (“Lives of Omission,” “Triumph In The Skies”) are the leading actors in “My Dearest Stranger.”

The high-end suspense drama series is a production spearheaded by Chinese distributor-producer Hishow Entertainment, which announced the production at the Cannes Market, which is held concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival.

Based on Fan Shu’s best-selling novel “Secret Love” and adapted by renowned screenwriter Cao Xueping (“Game Changer”), “My Dearest Stranger” tells the tale of Yu Xiao, a homemaker who discovers that her apparently ideal spouse may have a sinister side. Yu decides to work with constable Song Cheng to uncover the truth, while attempting to conceal her own secrets.

The story will be adapted into 16 episodes, directed by Lin Yu-Hsien (“Jump! Ashin,” “Exit No. 1”) of Taiwan (“Jump!

“My Dearest Stranger” begins production in June in Chengdu, Sichuan, with financing from Youku, a streaming service owned by Alibaba.

The principal performers and personnel are sourced from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in order to produce a high-quality, international-looking production.

Hishow is best known in mainland China as a specialized distributor. It has previously handled “Yanagawa” by Zhang Lu and “The Imitation Game.”

Early in 2020, the company made a significant foray into television production with the 38-episode drama “Game Changer.” The production (also in Chengdu) was substantially hampered by the early outbreak of COVID, but it was completed later that year when China returned to near normalcy ahead of other nations. The completed program was able to premiere on CCTV-8 and Youku in January 2021.

Hishow now has a slate of local productions in various phases of completion. It is also producing a substantial number of international coproductions. These will be directed towards audiences in Greater China and Chinese-speaking regions of Asia.
