Alcoholism made Jason Ritters think he didn’t deserve Melanie Lynskey 2023
Due to his drinking, Jason Ritters didn’t believe he “earned” Melanie Lynskey as his wife during the beginning of their relationship.
The 43-year-old actor claimed on Wednesday’s edition of “The Drew Barrymore Show” that it took him a while to realize Lynskey was “The One,” despite knowing how “amazing” she was “from day one.”
“It’s not as sweet a narrative as you’d want to believe,” the former “Parenthood” cast member stated. “It was chaotic, intriguing, and odd. But, I was also battling with drinking problems.”
Ritters added, choking back tears, “At a certain time, I saw how extraordinary she was and believed she would be amazing for someone who deserved her.” “And I didn’t feel like I was that person. I felt somewhat too insane.”

The actor gave up booze the same year he met the “Yellowjackets” actress, but he waited to get serious with her until he was certain it would last.
“Only after about a year of abstaining from alcohol did I begin to think, ‘Well, perhaps I can make some promises to others. Perhaps I can be this guy,’ he remarked as he fought back tears.
“I knew she was extraordinary. It was working on myself to the extent that I felt I might also be The One for her.”

Lynskey, who also became upset, remarked that her husband “worked so hard” before embracing him and expressing her pride.
Barrymore, 48, was taken aback by the heartbreaking account, which drove her to reveal her own issues with alcohol.
Alcohol was her “poison,” the “50 First Dates” star stated, adding that she hasn’t had a drink in nearly four years.

Ritters’ tale resonated with Barrymore, who stated that she often had similar feelings about dating.
“The narrative that one forms is ‘I can’t be with someone.’ I haven’t been in a relationship since I quit drinking, and I’m looking forward to one day not having the bad girl narrative, the instability, and the ‘I’m not someone who has the right to be with someone for their sake’ [feeling].”
Ritters and Lynskey, both 45 years old, wed in 2020 and welcomed their first child the previous year.
Since then, the couple has become “couple goals” on the internet, with Ritter recently shutting down trolls who were body-shaming his wife.
Ritter exhorted the haters to “swan dive” into the sun after the actress called out detractors who commented on her weight.
Ritter tweeted last year, “If anyone has any additional unwanted remarks about anyone else’s physique, they may write them in indelible ink on their own foreheads and swan dive directly into the sun.”
